Ireland's Top Baby Names For 2016 Have Been Revealed

Ireland's top baby names of 2016 have been revealed.

For girls, Emily came in at number one while James topped the list for baby boys.

For little girls, Willow and Matilda are fast becoming popular names. They were the highest climbers - up 49 places. Muhammad was the highest climbing name for boys.

Among the less common boy names were Anton, Brodie, Cruz, Feilim and Riain while for girls, the names Blake, Indigo, Lucia and Peyton are falling in popularity.

The figures also show the average age of first time mothers in 2016 was 30.9 years while over a third (36.5%) of babies were born outside of marriage/civil partnerships.
