Guidelines on advertising

A new set of guidelines on advertising for mobile phone and broadband services will come into force next month.

They're aimed at ensuring the appropriate use of key terms like fibre, speed and coverage.

The Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland has been looking at the use of key terms used in advertisements for mobile phones and broadband.

Some customers have complained the service provided doesn't match the advertisement of the product, in terms of speed and coverage as well as other issues.

New guidelines will come into force on September 1st covering the use of terms like coverage, availability and speed claims.

The ASAI confirmed today that a review is continuing into the use of the term 'unlimited'.

It hopes the publication of the guidelines goes a long way to ensuring consumers have greater clarity.
