Galway man goes viral

A Galway man has reacted after he went viral for bringing his alarm clock to a pub.

The photo in question sees John Joe Quinn sitting by himself in McGinn's Hop House.

Many assumed he brought the timer to make sure he didn't stay longer than the 105 minutes allowed amid the pandemic.

But it turns out he also wanted to make sure he made it back on time for the news.

Independent.ie caught up with John recently to chat about his newfound fame.

According to the publication, he couldn't help but laugh, 'Will I be on the television next?'

He explained why he brought the alarm clock with him, 'I try to get back up here to hear the news.'

'I asked the gentleman in there if I could have another pint if I had time.'

'Because you have to get out at a certain time, and he said, 'of course.''

John admitted, 'I don't know anything about computers or the internet. I'm an ordinary, plain man.'

'I always bring the clock with me, I never wear a watch.'

Where it all began

The photo went viral after McGinn's Hop House shared it online.

Fergus McGinn told Independent.ie that he asked permission first before taking the picture.

He said, 'I just thought it was a lovely image and I asked him could I take a photo. He was happy to do it.'

'We are getting messages all day, people wanting to send money for him.'

'I got the offer of a barrel of Guinness for him off a pub in Dublin. But that’s not him at all.'

'He is far too much of gent for that.'
