Twenty-nine projects from across the third level sector have secured over €6 million in funding for world-leading research equipment, including 567,627 for 3 projects in Limerick , Fine Gael TD for Limerick Kieran O’Donnell has said.
Deputy O’Donnell said:
"This funding of 567,627 will provide third level institutions in Limerick with access to world class equipment that will serve the Research and Development (R&D) needs of industry across the county.
Applicants were subject to a rigorous evaluation process, with stiff competition from many worthy projects.
I want to sincerely congratulate all successful applicants across the country, and in particular the 3 Limerick based projects that secured funding.
Limerick IT is receiving €446,368 for 2 research projects - €248,642 for their ‘Supercritical Fluid Extraction Suite’ and €197,726 for their ‘Controlled Environment Laboratory’.
Furthermore, the University of Limerick is receiving €121,259 for their ‘Elemental Analysis Suite’.
The investment will provide companies in Limerick with access to critical, cutting-edge equipment that will allow them to engage in R&D activities, as well as pilot manufacturing capability for new products and process development.
I look forward to seeing the fruits of the labour that result from this investment, which will further secure Limerick as a hub for technology and innovation.”
Speaking following the announcement, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar said:
"This €6m Capital Equipment Fund will give 29 projects across the country access to world-class research equipment, helping them test new products and ways of doing things. We hope to see some exciting new ideas and breakthroughs as a result.
Great things happen when companies collaborate with third level institutions.
Recent data show that companies which collaborate with our universities have double the turnover of those that don’t.
Third level institutions benefit too, by getting to work with creative, business-minded entrepreneurs, working on solutions to real life problems.” concluded An Tánaiste.
