The figures come from the Central Bank of Ireland.

Spending in Ireland was 1-point-3 billion higher in March 2022 compared to the same month last year.

Card spending increased by 13 per cent in March compared to February of this year.

The transport and accommodation sectors saw sizeable increases in expenditure, especially compared to the same months in 2021.

Spending in-person continues to outweigh purchases online by around a 500 million euro margin.

Irish consumers abroad spent 60 million euro more in March too.

Purchases made abroad increased by 23 per cent in March compared to February.

Most sectors benefited from spending increases in March, with the exception of groceries and electrical goods.

Figures released so far suggest credit card spending in April is quite similar to that in March.
