Coronavirus - Two Deaths And 814 New Cases Confirmed Today

The Department of Health has reported 814 new cases of COVID-19 in the Republic today.

It's also confirmed two further deaths associated with the virus.

The latest figures bring the total amount of cases here to 42,528.

While the number of coronavirus-related deaths has risen to 1,826.

Of the latest cases, 70% are under 45 years of age, while the median age is 32 years old.

432 are men and 381 are women.

County By County Coronavirus Rise

Regarding the nationwide distribution of cases, 226 are in Dublin.

Also 77 in Cork, 64 in Galway, 56 in Donegal, 48 in Meath.

Finally, the remaining 343 cases are spread across all remaining counties.

It comes as the number of patients being treated in hospital for COVID-19 has passed 200 for the first time since the end of May.

As of 2pm today, 204 people are now receiving treatment.

Including 16 people who have been admitted in the past 24 hours.

30 of those patients are in ICU.

Holohan "Rapidly Increasing Growth" Is Worrying

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, said:

“It is vital that the entire population consistently implement public health advice into their daily lives.

"Keep your social contacts to an absolute minimum and keep physical distance when you need to be out of your home.

“22 out of 26 counties have seven-day incidence rates as a percentage of 14-day incidence rates above 50%.

"This shows rapidly increasing growth rates across the country.”
