There's a chance of snow in parts of Leinster and Munster later this week.

Met Eireann says there's a very cold week in store, and that temperatures on Wednesday won't get above freezing.

Meteorologist Paul Downes says today's wintry showers may worsen as the week goes on.

"There'll be rain and sleet today and some hail showers today."

"Tomorrow they may turn into snow especially if they drift inland into Leinster and parts of Munster or on higher ground."

"The west might see more sleet but more will come of that in the next couple of days."

Mr Downes forecasts Wednesday will be a "bitterly cold day".

"Temperatures probably won't get above freezing in some areas."

"There'll be another band of snow on Wednesday night and into Thursday as well with possible accumulations."
