Good news for the overly domesticated...

If you have an Amazon Alexa device in your home - you could be able to use a new feature soon.

The company is trialling a new function in the U.S. to recognise household appliances.

This will mean the beeps from washing machines, dryers or even dishwashers will be recognised.

If you're away from your home - they'll notify you if the machine has been turned on or is finished its cycle.

Unfortunately, there are no plans to bring the feature to Europe yet but it could come here soon.

For those who have a habit of leaving the tap on in a rush heading out of the house - fear not.

The Amazon Alexa device is also being programmed to hear the sound of running water.

Currently - the device is designed to hear sounds such as dogs barking and babies crying.

It comes as 'Conversation Mode' has been rolled out in the U.S. this week.

This will allow a more 'human-like conversation with the device's AI.
