Almost One In 3 Gained Weight During Restrictions Over Last 12 Months

The Healthy Ireland survey was carried out by the Department of Health.

A new survey has brought to light the health effects of the last 12 months of restrictions.

Almost 3 in 10 people reported that their weight increased over the past year.

This was most frequent in mothers and women over the age of 30.

Binge drinking has reduced in the past year according to the survey.

Over 80% of those surveyed felt that their social connectedness was much lower.

During restrictions - levels of smoking remained similar to years previous.

Alcohol consumption dropped for those consuming drinks once a week.

Binge drinking saw a significant decrease from 28% to 15% of the population.

Areas such as mental health also saw a deterioration in the past 12 months.

Almost one in third believed their mental health worsened as a result of the lockdowns.
