40,000 people are expected on the streets of Dublin for tonight's New Year's Festival.

It's the first event of it's kind sicne 2019 because of the Covid pandemic.

Tonight also features a new Festival Village.

Acts such as Westlife, Gavin James and Lyra will take to the stage for the show at North Wall Quay from 8pm.

Bressie, who's set to perform with bandmates The Blizzards later, says the festival brings something to the city that wasn't there before.

"To see the kind of energy it brings to the city centre for that night."

He says not having it for a few years had an impact on both artists but also the crews that work these shows.

Five... Four... Three...

Meanwhile New Zealand, parts of the South Pacific and some of Australia have already entered 2023.

Spectacular fireworks displays were set up in cites like Sydney and Auckland.

BUT - a small group of people missed it!

A group of airline passengers have missed midnight while flying across timezones between America and Australia.

Their flight from Los Angeles to Sydney had to make an emergency stop in American Samoa.

But the rescue plane sent out to complete their journey was too late for the passengers to arrive in Australia in time for midnight.

So, thanks to a quirk of time zones, they flew from night time in 2022 into the early hours of 2023.
