Sarina asked Peter how he convinced his wife, and the film's screenwriter Erica Schmidt, that he would be perfect for the role of Cyrano.

"Well, having the advantage of sharing a house together, she had readings; early versions of the draft at our home," he began his answer.

"So I sort of made coffee for all the other actors and said, 'Can I read that part.'"

"Just 'cause I happened to be in the room and I call myself an actor," he added.

"So just to fill in the seats, she allowed me to read the part of Cyrano a few times and then I wouldn't let go."

Peter also spoke about the musical elements in the movie, and admitted he didn't think there would be as many as there are.

"She always had the idea of making it into a play with songs."

He explained, "But more and more started to, as they went along, attach themselves to the piece."

Peter said he was, "absolutely terrified," to perform the tracks live on set for the director and the film crew.

"I mean thank god we had the foundation of doing the theatrical production before, so I had a familiarity with the songs."

"But that all changes once you make the film. It's a very different way of performing the songs."

He explained, "Film affords you an intimacy that you don't have as much in the theatre."

In his interview with Sarina, he revealed why his love for this story, and the need to keep the British film industry working during the pandemic, pushed him to make this film, even when people thought he was mad to pursue it.
