The weather forecast for the bank holiday weekend looks grim according to the latest reports!

The national forecaster said we will be hit by heavy showers, freezing temperatures as low as -3C, frost and hail and there's also a risk of wintry falls.

Today:

A forecaster said: "Today will be a cold and windy day with a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers, some of them heavy with hail and a risk of thunder, Top temperatures will range just 7C to 10C, but it will feel much colder than this in the moderate to fresh and gusty northwesterly winds, which will be strong to near gale at the coasts."

Saturday:

Tomorrow is set to be a bitterly cold day with a threat of some wintry falls, mainly in Ulster and north Connacht, though accumulations look likely to be restricted to mountainous terrain.

Long clear spells will also occur, especially inland in the east and south. Lows of 0C to 3C. Frost and icy patches are possible, especially where showers have occurred and there is shelter from the gusty northwesterly winds. Overnight, temperatures could fall to a freezing -3C and there will also be widespread frost.

Sunday:

A forecaster said: "Top temperatures of 7C to 10C but feeling warmer than previous days due to the lighter winds.

"Temperatures will drop away fairly quickly after dark on Sunday night with frost forming in the clear near calm conditions.

"However, increasing cloud from the Atlantic will see temperatures rising later in the night.

"Lowest temperatures of -2C to 2C, coldest across the eastern half of the country early in the night. Light winds becoming southeasterly by dawn."
