The driving test is probably one of the most daunting things you’ll ever do.

It can be quite stressful but that’s normal. Here’s a few tips to help you ace it on the day.

Do - A Pre-Test

We can't recommend a pre-test highly enough, it’s a no brainer! You’re hardly going to rock up to your test without having practised before-hand.  It’s a chance to get any last-minute doubts out of your head.

Don't - Tell Everyone The Test Date

Don’t broadcast your test date to friends and family. If everyone around you knows your exact test date, it’ll just pile on the pressure and make you paranoid. You don’t need all that extra stress.

Do - Get Value Out Of Your Lessons

Lessons will take a chunk out of your bank account so get the most of out them. Take any chance you can to get out in your car and practise what you learned after each lesson.

Don't - Heed The Horror Stories

You'll hear plenty of exaggerated stories about failed tests and cranky testers, but just simply ignore them. Don’t let your mates wind you up! They’re only telling you these stories because they’ve passed the test and can boast about it.

Do - Get Your Timing Right

Be smart about when you pick your test. Try to book it at a quiet time of the week so that the roads aren’t packed with rush hour traffic. You’ll know when your test will be in advance so if you’ve got assignments in college due don’t get caught up in it all at once and then have to juggle your time between the two.

Don't - Worry About The Silence

It's rough sitting in a car beside a complete stranger who’s just telling you where to drive and what to do next. During your test, there will be some awkward silences. This is perfectly normal and happens at every test. Just blank it and concentrate on your driving and everything else will fall into place.

Do - Get A Good Night's Sleep

A good night’s kip will have you feeling fresh for your test. Probably isn’t the best look asking your driving instructor if you can stop for a coffee to keep you going!
