Jim Carrey set social media alight following his appearance at the 2026 César Film Awards in Paris, where he picked up an honorary award and delivered part of his acceptance speech in French. While many praised the moment, others became distracted by his look, with some fans claiming the actor appeared “unrecognisable” and floating outlandish theories that he was wearing a prosthetic — or wasn’t even himself at all.
The speculation escalated when celebrity transformation artist Alexis Stone posted on Instagram claiming he had disguised himself as Carrey for the event. Sharing photos of a realistic-looking mask, wig and teeth, Stone hinted that he was behind the appearance, leaving followers divided over whether it was an elaborate stunt.

However, prosthetics expert David Malinowski publicly dismissed the claims, stating it was unquestionably the real Jim Carrey and that no prosthetics were involved. Carrey’s signature elastic facial expressions during his speech — widely considered difficult to replicate in a full-face mask — only added to doubts about the theory.
While Stone is known for his jaw-dropping celebrity transformations, this time it appears the internet may have simply run with the joke.
