Samaritans Limerick & Tipperary branch are actively recruiting new volunteers to join their team.

Opening their doors on September 1st, 1975, Samaritans of Limerick & Tipperary have served the local community for more than 40 years.

From their base at 20 Barrington Street, Limerick, Samaritan volunteers support the public via telephone, email, text and face-to-face calls to the branch.

All of the services and support the charity offer is provided by volunteers who pride themselves on being there for people when they need a safe place to talk.

However, due to high demand, the Limerick & Tipperary branch is desperately seeking new volunteers.

"We are in bad need of new volunteers, we are having to close shifts," a spokesman for the branch expressed.

According to the HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP) there were 399 deaths by suicide in 2021 alone.

Samaritans is the only charity in Ireland offering emotional support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to anyone who is in distress, lonely, struggling to cope or feeling suicidal.

The charity's volunteers have had millions of potentially life-saving conversations with callers through its services since it began in 1961.
