St. Patrick's Day 2021 will look different, with pubs around Ireland still closed. As we look forward to all the laughter and craic of being back in the local, Guinness is celebrating the pub on a global scale and inviting people to enjoy the unique magic of the pub experience safely at home this St. Patrick’s Day.

To begin, the “Guinness Global Pub Greening”, will see Guinness joining in with Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening and helping pubs around the globe turn green this St. Patrick’s Day - quite literally shining a light on your local.

From Dublin to Derry, the Himalayas to Surfer’s Paradise and everywhere in between – pubs will turn green collectively to celebrate a St. Patrick’s Day unlike any other. What’s more, the iconic Home of Guinness, the Guinness Storehouse, the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore, USA as well as Guinness HQ in countries like Kenya and Uganda will also turn green for the occasion!

The global celebration will culminate with “The Best of the Pub”, an exciting virtual event featuring a varied programme of Irish entertainment, headlined by global music superstar Niall Horan, inviting us all to bring the magic of the pub into our homes, for one night only.

Broadcast from the iconic O’Donoghue’s pub in Dublin and shown live around the world on Youtube, “The Best of the Pub” will be a global celebration of all the elements that combine to make the pub magic. Whether it’s an intimate music session, the storytelling skills of the locals or the simple pleasure of enjoying a delicious cheese toastie with a cold, smooth pint of Guinness, the “Best of the Pub” will allow people to enjoy some of that unique pub experience, at home, for St. Patrick’s Day 2021.

The event will be headlined by global music superstar, and hometown hero, Niall Horan, who will perform a specially created, unplugged and intimate set, complete with some surprises, live from his local, The Toucan in London’s Soho Square.

Of course, no pub experience (virtual or otherwise!) would be complete without a cold, smooth Guinness. That’s why our Guinness beer ambassadors will be on hand to help you pour the perfectly crafted glass of Guinness to raise in a toast to your local pub, from the comfort of your couch.

What’s more, renowned Irish chef, DJ and pub-owner Marcus O’Laoire will show you how to craft the ultimate Guinness cheese toastie from your own kitchen, perfect for pairing with our iconic ruby red stout. And finally, renowned Nigerian-Irish poet and performance artist FELISPEAKS will perform a new, specially commissioned and one-of-a-kind piece that will capture the evocative and scintillating story-telling that is only possible in the perfect pub.

Grainne Wafer, Guinness Global Brand Director said “There’s something special about the pub on St. Patrick’s Day,  and this year Guinness is excited to celebrate all that is wonderful about the pub, even if they are closed for now. With the “Guinness Global Pub Greening” we want to shine a light on Irish pubs around the world, and the people who make them what they are, this St. Patrick’s Day. Along with our “Best of the Pub” virtual celebration, Guinness is proud to bring the magic of the pub to people’s homes as we look forward to being back in the local with friends for laughter, craic and a cold, smooth Guinness when government restrictions are eased.”

Guinness knows that pubs in Ireland, and around the world, play a pivotal role in bringing people together and creating moments of joy and connection. While many may be closed or empty this St. Patrick’s Day, Guinness is encouraging people around the world to show the love for their local by sharing images of their favourite pub on social media with #BestOfThePub
