On the run up to Valentine's Day, Irish singletons may find themselves searching for a special someone.
According to romantic new research from leading hotel group, Jurys Inn, the people of Dublin are in high demand, with the fair city’s men being voted most handsome (28%) and its women most beautiful (27%) out of all 32 counties.
The research, which surveyed 1,000 people across Ireland, showed that one in five believe Dublin ‘stun huns’ are the best people to pop the question to (21%), with their Galway kin coming in at a close second place (16%).
When it comes to accents, Donegal dreamboats are the best at charming us with their dulcet tones (37%). It appears we’re also quite partial to Cork’s buttery accent (13%) and a Dublin brogue (12%).
This Valentine’s Day, our heads may also be turned by an international romance…
- French is still the language of love with a quarter (24%) of Irish people believing people from France have the best accents in the world, followed closely by the Aussies (18%) and Italians (17%)
- Accordingly to the Irish, Italians (29%), Scandinavian (15%), French (12%), and Spanish (12%) men all rank amongst the best looking. The most beautiful women are said to come from Scandinavia (33%), Italy (19%) and Spain (19%).
- The British (20%) and Canadians (13%) were considered to be the best marriage material.
Commenting on the findings, Suzanne Cannon, Head of Marketing at Jurys Inn, said:
“Valentine’s Day has become a fun day for all to pamper people they love, whether it’s a romantic, familial or platonic relationship. While our research has some playful findings, it also shows that the Irish have a lot of love to give! At Jurys Inn, we host a number of Valentine’s visits ranging from couples coming to spoil their sweethearts with a weekend break to groups of friends heading out in the city to celebrate being single!”
