Lady Gaga on her friendship with Ariana Grande

Lady Gaga has opened up about her now close friendship with Ariana Grande.

She told Zane Lowe from Apple Beats 1 that she was initially, 'ashamed to hang out with her.'

This comes ahead of the release of their collaboration Rain On Me, which dropped today.

Gaga admitted she was ashamed by her own personal issues, in comparison to what Grande has been through.

So for this reason, she steered clear of a friendship with her.

Gaga revealed, "She was so persistent. She would try over and over again to be friends with me."

The A Star is Born actress admitted, "I was too ashamed to hang out with her."

"I didn't want to project all of this negativity onto something that was healing and so beautiful," she explained.

But it seems Ariana didn't care about any of that.

The 34-year-old revealed, "Eventually she called me on my s**t."

"She was, 'You're hiding.' And I was like, 'I am hiding. I'm totally hiding.' And then this friendship blossomed."

Gaga seems to think very highly of Ariana, recognising that the young singer has gone through, "really hard life testing stuff."

How Ariana feels

Ariana however, seems to believe they've both been through the same type of pain.

In a post promoting their new song, Ariana wrote, 'one time ..... i met a woman who knew pain the same way i did...'

'who cried as much as i did, drank as much wine as i did, ate as much pasta as i did and who’s heart was bigger than her whole body.'

'i hope this makes u all feel as uplifted as it does for us both. i love u'
