Forget everything you think you know about Robin Hood. A24’s The Death of Robin Hood is turning the legendary outlaw story on its head — and the first trailer makes it clear this is no heroic fairytale.

Hugh Jackman stars as an older, broken Robin Hood who openly rejects the myths that made him famous, insisting the stories people tell about him are lies. Instead of a charming thief stealing from the rich, this version paints Robin as a man haunted by years of violence, crime and bloodshed.

After being badly wounded in a battle he believes will be his last, Robin finds himself in the care of a mysterious woman, played by Jodie Comer, who offers him a chance at redemption. As he struggles with guilt and regret, he forms an unexpected bond with a young girl, teaching her archery while desperately trying to steer her away from the violent path he once followed.

The film is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, best known for Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, signalling a gritty, emotional take on the legend. The cast also includes Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe.

Set for release in 2026, The Death of Robin Hood promises a brutal reimagining of a classic hero — one more focused on consequence than courage.
