Cynthia Erivo will reportedly be absent from this year’s Golden Globe Awards — even after making history with her latest nomination.

The 38-year-old actress earned a Best Actress nomination for her role as Elphaba in Wicked: For Good, marking her fifth Golden Globe nod and third in the category. When nominations were announced in December, Cynthia became the first Black woman to be nominated twice in the same Best Actress category.

However, she won’t be able to attend the ceremony this Sunday, as she is deep in rehearsals for her next major role. According to reports, her schedule has made it impossible to travel to Los Angeles in time for the awards.

Cynthia is currently preparing for an ambitious one-actor stage production of Dracula, in which she will play the infamous vampire alongside 22 other characters. The adaptation, directed by Kip Williams, arrives on the West End next month following a successful run in Australia.

Producers are said to have been unable to pause rehearsals to allow her to attend the Globes, with the production set to make its international debut at London’s Noël Coward Theatre in February 2026.
