The Bank Holiday weekend isn't looking the best as Met Eireann predicts rain, thunder and temperatures of just 8C.

A forecaster said: "It will be bright and fresh today with a mixture of sunny spells and passing showers.

"The showers will be well-scattered at first but will develop more widely later in the day.

"Some of the showers will turn heavy in the afternoon/evening and there is the risk of thunder.

"Maximum temperatures of 16C to 19C in mostly moderate west to northwest breezes, but increasing fresh and gusty at times, especially near showers.

"Showery rain will develop in western counties overnight and extend eastwards. Minimum temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light or moderate, mainly westerly breezes.

"Showery rain will clear quickly eastwards into the Irish Sea on Saturday morning to leave a bright day with a mix of sunshine and showers.

"Some of the showers will turn heavy and possibly thundery during the afternoon and early evening. Top temperatures will range from 15C to 18C degrees in moderate westerly winds."
