Miss UK 2017 Zoiey Smale, was all set for her trip to Ecuador next month where she would be competing in Miss United Continents until she decided to hand back her Miss UK title, Mashable reports. Her reason for doing so was because the national director of the pageant reportedly told her the people running the pageant in Ecuador wanted her to lose weight.

“She said to me "They want you to go on a diet plan and they want you to lose as much weight as possible for the finals,” Smale told the Daily Mail. “I was like, ‘pardon?’ It was one of those things, in the 21st century you don't actually expect people to be that blunt.”

Smale took to Facebook on August 21st to share her opinion on the events, she said she “was branded 'fat' because [she is] size 10.” She has since shared a post thanking her fans for the support:

Smale now plans to retire from the pageant circuit, according to Mashable.
