JC Stewart joined Katie on SPIN Now for a heartfelt chat about his upcoming debut album Space Hurts, out June 20th 2025. Known for his raw honesty and emotive songwriting, the Northern Irish singer-songwriter opened up about the deeply personal title track, a song he wrote years ago that still holds a special place in his heart. Written alongside Todd Clarke and Foy Vance, the track captures the pain of being apart from someone you love for the first time.
JC reflects on the long road to releasing this record. From losing a major label deal to creating the album independently with co-producer Mark Schick, Space Hurts is a true labour of love. He talks about the joy and struggle behind songs like Hey Babe, I’m A Mess, I’m Sorry which won Song of the Year at the Northern Ireland Music Prize in 2024, and BT45, a track rooted in his hometown that’s struck a chord with listeners across Ireland.
