Over forty thousand Americans have descended on the capital city this weekend for a college football game.

US College teams Notre Dame and the US Naval Academy will go head to head in the Aviva Stadium at 7:30 pm this evening.

Before the game gets underway, the US Air Force will hold a flyover above the stadium.

The event is being organised by Aer Lingus for their American Football College Classic.

Several thousand fans were pictured on Dame Street in Dublin for a pep rally before the game.

Tourism Ireland's Interim CEO Siobhán McManamy says the game is a great boost for the country.

It is the largest single movement of Americans ever to a sporting event overseas.
And I think the best thing about it is it's not just about Dublin.
They're staying, on average, seven or eight nights.
They're travelling around the country, and there's a real impact throughout the Isle of Ireland from the game.
But I think it's apparent on the streets in the last two days, you know, they're just everywhere, having a great time.

The event could generate an estimated 147 million euro for the Irish economy.
