Students at two Irish universities have been impacted by a global cyber-attack.
University College Cork and Munster Technological University are among what’s understood to be thousands of institutions whose online learning platform ‘Canvas’ was hit by hackers.
Students were told about the attack on the ‘Canvas’ learning hub today.
MTU- which has campuses in Cork and Kerry- say it’s engaging with Instructure- the makers of Canvas to assess any potential impact and is advising staff and students to remain vigilant for suspicious emails, links and attachments.
UCC says Canvas is back online and there is no evidence to indicate UCC student or staff data has been compromised.
Instructure says the data taken includes names, email addresses, student ID numbers, and messages among Canvas users.
But its found no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information was stolen.
