The Irish Refugee Council says demand for its services surged last year.

A new report from the IRC today shows the rights of those seeking international protection are getting worse, with more becoming homeless.

Today's report shows the Irish Refugee Council supported 11,000 refugees compared to 3,000 in 2021 - that's a sharp rise of 267 per cent.

The organisation's helplines received 24,000 calls compared to 15,000 in 2021 a 60% increase.

Over 350 Homeless

The report highlights a further deterioration in the rights of people seeking protection in early 2023

More than 355 people are currently homeless and without accommodation.

It describes this as a grave and deteriorating situation that requires all of government attention.
