A man has died after an explosion at a homeless accommodation centre in Dublin City.

The property, operated by DePaul, is located on Little Britain Street, which is off Capel Street.

Gardaí and Dublin Fire Brigade were called to the scene shortly after 3:30pm this afternoon.

One man suffered "fatal injuries" and there are no reports of any other injuries.

Residents at the homeless accommodation centre have been evacuated and a cordon has been established, with diversions in place.

Gardaí are investigating the "precise cause" of the explosion and the Garda Technical Bureau has been called to examine the scene.

DePaul says the incident was confined to one room.

The charity says its working to find alternative placements for the residents who had to be evacuated.

"Depaul is working with the DRHE and our NGO partners to ensure no person will be left without accommodation this evening," it said.
