A protest is taking place outside the Science Gallery in Dublin today, calling for it to be saved.

The Trinity College Student's Union says it's a vital space for the campus and the city and the college needs to find a long term funding model to protect its future.

TCD told the gallery's staff last year that it was closing the world renowned facility on Pearse Street because of unsustainable losses.

The TCD Student's Union began protesting outside the Pearse Street venue at 1 o'clock today over plans to shut the beloved facility.

In the Dáil this week the Taoiseach said the university needed to develop a new vision for the gallery, after two government departments offered to provide funding.

Accounts show that losses by the Science Gallery more than doubled to €568,924 in 2020, while its income declined by 22% to €1.17 million.
