A national initiative has been launched to #ShineYourLight for the sick and their loved ones tonight.

It all kicks off at 9pm and the Government are encouraging people to get out with whatever lights you can find.

Christmas lights, lamps, torches, your mobile phone - anything goes (but please do be safe!)

Buildings Across Ireland Taking Part

In Dublin the Air Traffic Control tower will light up, as will the Waste to Energy Plant.

Kieran Mullins from the Plant says you can see it across the city.

"Certainly anybody in the Sandymount and Merrion area will see it"

"From the higher areas of Dublin like the Dublin Mountains, the Mount Merrion Area too."

"We hope when people do see it, that it'll remind them of the effort they're making."
