An Oireachtas committee's recommended the introduction of paid 'sick child leave'.

It's also recommending 10 days of domestic violence leave as part of its review of the Work-Life Balance Bill.

A draft of the Bill was brought to Cabinet by Children’s Minister Roderic O’Gorman and approved in April.

Parent Sinead O'Moore, and Host of Every Mum Podcast, says the introduction of leave to care for a sick relative would be welcome.

"It would acknowledge the stress that parents are under. It's also important to note that it's not just parents but carers as well.

"They understand that where there is illness, workers need to be supported whether it is a partner, an elderly parent or a child.

"It is encouraging a better work-life balance and treating humans as humans acknowledging that we have other stuff going on but we still can be good employees that are supported."
