Technological University

Limerick IT and Athlone IT want to join together to develop a new Technological University.

The collaboration of both institutes of technology aims to create a unique option for the Mid-West and Midlands.

Earlier this month the government announced €90 million in funding for the development of technological universities.

Both institutions made a joint application for funding earlier this year to commence work on the TU consortium. An announcement on this application is expected to be made by government in the near future.

President of LIT, Professor Vincent Cunnane welcomed the move as “generationally significant for the Mid-West”.

"This approach allows us to develop a unique new Technological University."

"It will have a clear regional focus with a national and international outlook."
