New staff hired to tackle antisocial behaviour.

Irish Rail is introducing new staff on-board their trains to tackle antisocial behaviour.

The customer service roles will be backed up by security.

The aim is to create more "peace and comfort" for passengers.

The move comes as Iarnród Éireann have received an increase in antisocial behaviour complaints such as the playing of loud music.

25 were made by passengers last year - with 19 of them relating to people playing videos and music without headphones.

Irish Rail spokesperson, Barry Kenny, says it can be very annoying for commuters:

"With trends and with how people are consuming media.... We are seeing more people playing clips out loud, or playing clips for children."

He said the goal will be to 'take conflict' out of situations on trains, by reminding people to turn down loud music that may be irritating for other passengers.
