A national status yellow low temperature and ice warning has been issued for Thursday and Friday.

It will run from Thursday at 10pm until 10am on Friday.

Met Eireann is warning of "hazardous conditions" with temperatures to fall to minus four degrees.

Put The Heating On

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach says people should put their health first when it comes to deciding whether or not to put the heating on.

Met Eireann's Winter Weather Advisory has been extended to include Sunday and Monday.

The previous note expired on Sunday evening.

It also warns of icy roads and footpaths with possible black ice.

Freezing fog is also possible, "especially this weekend."

Micheal Martin says there is no problem with energy supplies heading into the cold weather:

"We should be okay," the Taoiseach said today, but added nobody can ever give "ultimate guarantees" for the whole winter.

The Fianna Fail leader also admitted "we're about to head into a difficult week or two" where the weather's concerned.
