More than 20,000 euro has been raised for a food bank in University College Cork.

A GoFundMe page was set up on Thursday after the bank, run by the students' union, ran out of supplies in less than an hour.

The SU has received more than 600 donations in the past 24 hours.

Deputy President of UCC SU, Sinéad Roche, says there has been a community effort in supporting students in need:

"Anyone who's in the Cork area have seen the news opened their cupboards seen what things they don't need, thrown them into a bag and just drop them into us.

"There's been a real community effort, a lot of students have been coming into us.

"In regards to the GoFundMe, there is a really big range. We've had UCC alumni, there's been past UCC Students' Union officers, I think there's been people overseas, there's been a huge range of people who've wanted to help out with the cause.
