Hurricane Lorenzo could hit Ireland on Thursday

Weather forecasters are continuing to keep an eye on the progress of Hurricane Lorenzo, with its potential arrival on Thursday.

The storm, which is currently heading towards the Azores islands in the Atlantic, was a very powerful category 5 hurricane.

It's not expected to be as strong when it reaches Ireland, as it's due to recede to a tropical storm

Emergency planners are currently anticipating a potential major weather event. In addition, there could be the first meeting this year of the Government's emergency task force.

The National Emergency Co-ordination Group hasn't met since Storm Diana last year.

Organisers are waiting for an update from Met Eireann on which path Lorenzo is likely to take.
