A man has been charged in relation to the discovery of a woman's body in a burning car in Co Cork.

Mary O’Keeffe, who was in her 70s, was found near a wooded area outside Doneraile on Thursday afternoon.

A 62-year-old man, who was arrested on Friday following his discharge from Cork University Hospital, has been charged.

He had been rescued from a nearby river and was detained on suspicion of unlawful killing.

He is due before Fermoy District Court at 11am this morning.

Mrs O’Keeffe's remains were discovered inside a car that was on fire in the Doneraile area at around 4.30pm last Thursday.

The mother-of-three is from Dromahane, a village outside Mallow.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted at Cork University Hospital by the Assistant State Pathologist Margot Bolster.

However, the findings are not being released by Gardaí for operational reasons.
