Man And Woman Dead After North Dublin House Fire

Two people have died following a house fire in north Dublin.

It happened in Portmarnock last night.

Portmarnock House Fire - Post Mortems Due

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at Beach Park at around 10:30pm.

The fire was brought under control but the bodies of a man and woman were subsequently discovered.

While an investigation's underway to establish the cause of the fire and the scene at Beach Park has been preserved.

The victims remains have been taken to the Dublin City Mortuary where a post mortem will take place.

Gardaí say the results of the post mortem and the technical examination will determine the course of their investigation.

They're appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Malahide Garda Station.

The Community Is "Absolutely Devastated"

Sinn Féin TD for Fingal, Louise O'Reilly has paid respects to the deceased.

She says people in the local area are stunned by the news:

"Absolutely devastating, my sympathies go out to the family and friends of the couple that have been bereaved today."

"Now is the time to let the investigators and the other [emergency services] people to do their work."

"But I know the local community in Portmarnock is absolutely devastated after waking up to the news this morning."
