Stefán Karl Stefánsson, who played villain Robbie Rotten in children's television series LazyTown, has died from cancer.
A song from the show, We Are Number One, became a massive internet meme as part of an online campaign to help him and his family with medical expenses after he made his diagnosis public.
Not many actors can play the part of a villain that you really couldn’t help but like...

As great as he was in his role, it's important to remember Stefan Karl was more than just Robbie Rotten. He was a father, husband and genuinely good person who just wanted to help others. He ran a charity against bullying and did volunteer work even after his diagnosis.

Stefan Karl Stefansson was an amazing influence that changed the way people interact with memes. We are Number One helped to bring the internet together to spread the word for the gofundme used to raise money for cancer treatment. You’ll always be number 1 to us.

R.I.P Stefán Karl Stefánson.
He entertained me as a kid, and he entertained me now. He shone as Robbie Rotten in LazyTown, embraced the memes of We Are Number One, and seemed a wonderful man. He played a great relatable character and was a greater man. He’ll always be Number 1 😢— Reece C. (@ReeceVC) August 21, 2018
