The Late Late Toy show is back tonight, and the theme for the evening is The Lion King.

Last year’s show recorded its highest ever TV audience with 1-point-7 million viewers tuning in from around the country.

Speaking on the opening performance the show's host says he will be giving everything to 'let loose’ after last year’s Covid friendly show.

Ryan Tubridy says he will be embracing the ‘Hakuna Matata’ philosophy for the night:

"Last year I was fantastic Mr. Fox, and that was because the foxes had the run of the place, and this year we thought it was time to let loose.

"Just when you thought kids couldn't be more impressive, their resilience over the last two years.

"So why the Lion King? It's free, it's goofy and it's a problem free philosophy."

Ryan went on to say the Toy Show Appeal was an amazing moment for him.

In last year's show, an appeal helped raise €6.5 million in just an hour and a half.

Ryan Tubridy says the generosity of viewers across the country made a visible difference:

"It was the difference between some children having a meal in their belly before school, there are children in Ireland today with books in their hands they simply wouldn't of had, it made an enormous difference."

The show is live tonight at 9.35pm.
