A date for the retrial in the Jason Corbett murder case in the US, is due to be set today.

The Limerick man was beaten to death at his home in North Carolina by his wife, Molly, and his father-in-law, Tom Martens, in August 2015.

They claim they were acting in self-defence - but a jury convicted them of second degree murder in 2017.

That was overturned last year, and a date for their retrial is likely to be set today.

Michael Hewlett, from local newspaper the Winston-Salem Journal, thinks the new trial is several months away.

"Up until now there have not been any pre-trial motions files which you would expect.

"Garry Frank, the elected DA, has expressed hope that a new trial could be set for this year.

"But my guess is that there won't be a trial until sometime next year."
