200 festivals at risk

There's a warning up to 200 festivals across the country are at risk of being cancelled this summer.

Many of them currently get HSE-approved ambulance and medical support on site.

After July 31st, some events will have to pay for paramedic cover - which is required in order to get insurance.

The Association of Irish Festivals and Events says rising premiums mean many won't be able to do so.

Executive director, Colm Croffy, says there has been a steady decline recently:

"You are talking about arts festivals, music festivals and dance festivals we've lost a number of festivals in the last few years because of the increasing insurance burden."
