The entire cabinet is to be provided with armed Garda bodyguards and luxury cars, following a security review by the Gardai.
The Irish Mail on Sunday reports that all 15 Government Ministers will be protected by two armed Garda protection officers who are trained in the use of firearms and in high-speed driving.
John Lee is executive editor of the Daily Mail says the decision to increase security was sparked by recent protests outside Ministers homes.
"It's a general feeling of a heightened sense of sinister behaviour around politicians, let's put it that way. There have been instances in other jurisdictions of course of fatal attacks on politicians."
Mr Lee is of course referring to the murder of UK Conservative MP Sir David Amess who died after being stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery in Essex.
It is the first time in 11 years that ministers will have had Garda drivers.
