The funeral of murdered journalist Lyra McKee is taking place in Belfast.

President Michael D. Higgins, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, and British Prime Minister Theresa May are attending the service for the 29 year old, who was killed by dissident republicans last Thursday in Derry.

Her family has issued a statement saying the 29-year-old was "a gentle innocent soul who wouldn't wish ill on anyone."

Other political leaders among the mourners include Jeremy Corbyn, Karen Bradley, Mary Lou McDoanld and Arlene Foster.

Members of the National Union of Journalists have formed a guard of honour and mourners were asked to wear Harry Potter and Marvel clothing as a tribute to Lyra.

Streets surrounding the cathedral have been closed and a large number of PSNI officers are inside and outside the building.

A private burial will take place this afternoon.
