Ireland's First Reverse Vending Machine Will Give Users 10c Vouchers

The first reverse vending machine in Ireland is being unveiled in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.

It will allow people to recycle their plastic bottles, and also receive a 10 cent voucher in return.

The machine, can hold several hundred bottles at a time.

It will use a barcode scanner to recognise what is being recycled.

Breda McGuigan is treasurer of the local tidy towns initiative.

She explained that the new machine allows people to return their clean and empty plastic bottles.

"It will hold a couple of hundreds bottles, depending on the size. We're going to empty it every day.
