Around 30 people are dead and several others are injured after a motorway bridge collapsed in the Italian city of Genoa, according to the country's interior minister.

A 200 metre section of the structure, which is part of a major route between Italy and France, came down during a storm.

Around 20 vehicles then plummeted 90 metres below.

The Irish Embassy in Rome says anyone with concerns about Irish citizens in the area can contact the Department of Foreign Affairs.
