Nine more deaths related to Covid-19 have been notified to the Department of Health.

It brings the death toll from the disease here to 1,763.

Seven new cases of Covid-19 have been detected in the past 24 hours - bringing the total number of positive tests to 25,826.

The acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said eight of the deaths announced this evening are late notifications of deaths that took place in April, May and June.

Health officials also announced that the reproductive number of the virus has fallen in the past week.

Chair of the COVID-19 modelling group Professor Phillip Nolan said the figures have stabilised.

“It seems as if we have achieved some level of stability just in the course of the last week,” he said.

“On average for this Wednesday, looking back over the preceding five days we were confirming 18 cases a day. Last week that was 19 cases a day and it had risen to 19."
