36 New Cases And No New Deaths Due To Covid-19

The highest number of cases of Covid-19 in over a month have been recorded in the Republic today.

36 new cases have been confirmed by health authorities here.

Latest figures show there have now been 25,802 confirmed covid 19 cases, after a further 36 were recorded today.

The death toll since the virus broke out here in late February stands at 1,753, with no new deaths reported.

As of midnight last night, 574 and a half thousand tests have been carried out. including over 51,000 tests in the past 7 days.

Of those, 139 came back positive, giving a positivity rate of 0.27%.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ronan Glynn says:

"Together, we have achieved so much in our ongoing effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our communities, making it possible to take steps to reopen society and the economy."

“Today I am asking everyone to stay the course on the public health measures needed to suppress COVID-19, such as covering coughs, hand washing, use of face coverings and 2m social distancing, which are essential for continuing the momentum towards the reopening of our schools and the resumption of our healthcare services.”
