The Department of Health has reported 2,074 new Covid-19 cases today.

It's the first time the daily figure has been over 2,000 since January.

It brings the five-day moving average of new cases to 1,856.

There are 229 patients with the virus in hospital, of which 43 are in ICU.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn says COVID-19 incidence rate is rising in all age groups and across all counties.

More than 75,000 12 to 15-year-olds have now registered to receive a Covid-19 vaccine.

It comes as clinics throughout the country are administering first doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to this age-group today and tomorrow.

Registration opened on Wednesday evening, and the first appointments started yesterday.
