The guidelines for the further reopening of society were announced late on Thursday.

Nightclubs are back operating at full capacity tonight for the first time since March 2020.

Live indoor venues can host up to 1,500 people standing under the new guidelines.

There'll no doubt be a lot of people out and about over the weekend, so here's all you need to know:

  • You will need a Digital Covid Cert to attend a nightclub, show or gig
  • Pubs and restaurants can open later than the 11:30pm closing time
  • You can get a drink at the bar, but must socially distance 2 metres apart from others
  • Tables will be limited to a maximum of ten adults
  • Table service will still operate but queues at bars can be allowed if socially distanced
  • Face masks will be required moving around venues i.e going to the toilet or bar
  • Face masks won't be required when dancing or drinking

Speaking in Brussels, the Taoiseach defended the last minute notice of guidelines to nightlife venues.

He has said most were happy to reopen despite not knowing the rules for most of the week.

Club promoter, Buzz O'Neill Maxwell, says clubs are going 'out of their way' to ensure safety.

He says people need to show common sense as it could be their 'once chance to get it right'.
