From Friday 1st of June 2018 the University of Limerick campus will go entirely smoke and vape free.

The university introduced extensive non smoking/ vaping zones on the campus in September.

The UL president, Professor Desmond Fitzgerald, said "This is a major step towards a healthier campus. I hope it will help those who want to quit smoking and also help prevent incoming students from taking up the habit."

He has said that any student wishing to quit smoking or vaping can get help from the student health center, and they will refer them to the relevant HSE primary care smoking cessation provider.
